5 Things You Can Do to Overcome Negative Thinking
So many people concentrate on "what's wrong" in their lives.
This type of thinking only leads to depressing feelings and
the inevitable continuation of negative events. Besides,
thinking about what's wrong is certainly not the right way
to go about fixing your problems.
Maybe that's why the Bible tells us to think on what's
true, just, pure, lovely, and things of good report. Plus,
if there be any virtue or any praise, we are to think on
these things (Philippians 4:8).
Thinking consistently about "what's wrong" has become such
a habit for some people, they don't even realize that very
type of thinking is what's keeping them in the problems
they face. If you're one of those people, here are 5 things
you can do to overcome negative thinking...
1. Focus on where you want to be
Mistakes are something to learn from... that's it! Life is
all about mistakes. We've all made them, and we will
continue to make them. The positive truth is... Every
mistake is another step closer to success!
2. Visualize good things happening
It really isn't that hard to do. It may just feel strange
at first because it's something you may not be used to
doing. It gets easier with practice, plus the rewards are
great!
3. Change your atmosphere
Get around some positive people. I know they may be hard to
find, but they're out there. Even if they're on a recording
via a motivational tape or CD. You may want to reduce the
amount of time you spend listening to the news too. The
news isn't intended to make you feel positive.
4. Read something positive everyday
The best times of day is when you first get up and right
before you go to sleep. And, the best type of reading
material is something filled with faith. Maybe something
out of a devotional booklet.
5. Forgive
Unforgiveness only imprisons the person who carries it.
Forgive yourself and other people. We all make bad choices,
but we have to let it go. Until we let it go, we cannot
move forward and work to make better choices.
Conclusion
Thinking negative and thinking about "what's wrong" all the
time has become easy for many people. It's because they've
been doing it for so long, they've become experts at it.
With enough practice you can probably become an expert at
about anything. There's no reason why you cannot become an
expert at positive thinking and positive expectations. It's
all about habits... nothing more.
Practice these five tips and you'll soon replace those old
self-defeating, negative thinking patterns. I guarantee
you... you'll see some positive changes in your
circumstances! and that guarantee is backed up by
Scripture... "As a man thinketh, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7)!
