More Knowledge Leads to Frustration

Have you gone through book after book, sermon after sermon,
or article  after article looking for answers that will
bring you success for your  life, but found yourself only
coming up with more questions?

Does it seem like the more you study, the more frustrated
you become?

There's an interested Scripture I would like to direct you
to found in Ecclesiastes 1:16-18. This is written by
Solomon, the wisest man who  ever lived...

"I entered into counsel with my own mind, saying behold I
have acquired  great human wisdom. Yes, more than all who
have been over Jerusalem  before me; and my mind has had
great experience of moral wisdom and  scientific knowledge.

I gave my mind to know practical wisdom, and to discern the
character  of madness and folly in which men seem to find
satisfaction; I perceived  that this is also is a searching
after wind and a feeding on it.

For in much human wisdom is much vexation, and he who
increases  knowledge increases sorrow."

Okay, that was the Amplified Bible's version. Now let me
give you the  Living Bible translation, which may make it a
little more clear...

"I said to myself, "Look, I am better educated than any of
the kings  before me in Jerusalem. I have greater wisdom
and knowledge. So I  worked hard to be wise instead of
foolish. But now I realize that this  was like chasing the
wind. For the more wisdom, the more my grief;  to increase
knowledge only increases distress."

Okay, back to my opening quesion... "Have you gone through
book after  book looking for answers that will bring you
success for your life,  but found yourself only coming up
with more questions?"

The reason I believe why Solomon said the more knowledge
and  understanding he got increased his grief was because
it lead him into  a fleshly spirit where he may have tried
to do things in his own power.

I know from personal experience; the times in my life when
I left God  out, the real power was gone and I was left
with nothing more than  frustration!

Jesus said, "As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself
unless it abides in  the vine, neither can you, unless you
abide in Me. I am the vine you are  the branches. He that
abides in me, and I in him, the same bears much  fruit, for
without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:4-5).

Yes, I believe much study can lead to distress. It can get
us off track  with our relationship with God, particularly
if what we are studying is  not coming from a Christian
author.

Good judgment is definitely required when learning new
ideas that are not usually taught in local churches or
delivered by non-Christian authors!

Getting educated, learning new ideas, and studying is
certainly something I personally believe in, but I know we
must consider God's  will in our lives above all else.
Again, without Him, we can do nothing.

We should get knowledge and then ask God what we are to do
with it,  how we are to apply it to our lives, and how we
are to help others with it. Getting knowledge is not
something we should try to get for selfish reasons! James
4:3 says, ""You ask and fail to receive because you ask
with wrong  purpose and selfish motives" (Amplified Bible
Version).
