3 Words to Better Your Life
by T. A Smith
If you are looking to better your life. If you’d like to create more PLEASURE for you and those around you. Do you want to feel better and make your friends and co-horts feel better as well? Would you like to improve in your business life?
If so, practice these 3 words………….. ALWAYS SHOW UP.
The advice is simple. The actions seem harder to follow up on.
How many times has someone told you that they’d do something and pulled a “no -show”? How did you feel? There are so many pretenders out there.. people that say they will do this or that and do not come through. Why do people say they’ll do something and not follow through? Are they afraid to hurt people’s feelings? Do they not have the guts to tell someone NO? Doesn’t their WORD mean ANYTHING?
Whatever it is, baffles me. Nonetheless, starting today, make it a habit to ALWAYS SHOW UP. Let’s look at a few examples…
Parties.. people put a ton of work into scheduling and setting up a party. It may be their only party of the year? It may be important that you show up, only if for a short time. Think of the food they ordered and the drinks they purchased, based on how many people told them they’d come over to the party.
Birthday Events.. Again, may not be that important to you, but you can bet the one having the birthday will be glad you came. Imagine if someone threw you a birthday party, and NO ONE came. How would you feel?
Funerals/ Wakes…. These are tough as they are not the most comfortable events to attend. Some feel awkward. Others just don’t know what to say. Think about this… IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU!. It’s about going to console the grieving families. It’s also about paying your respects. Having lost a parent.. I can personally tell you it felt so good to hear all the great comments that people said about my parent.. that I’d have never known if they hadn’t come. It HELPS get through the tragic time. Anyone that has gone through losing a loved one can relate here.
Anniversary Parties. Again, this may not be number 1 on your excitement level attending one of these events. Nonetheless, anniversaries are a big deal to the ones going through it. Think about this..When you have an anniversary of some sort, won’t you want others to share your celebration with you?
It’s similar to the raffle ticket deal. What comes around, goes around. We’ll all be selling some day, so try to be a buyer when someone else is selling. We all scratch each other’s back when an itch appears. Win-win. It’s part of the game of life we play.
Lets shift over to BUSINESS for a brief moment.
I read somewhere that 70 % of getting a deal/ business from someone is just SHOWING UP. Why? Because SO MANY of your competitors don’t show up. What a novel idea. You want to earn an account, go to the persons sales meeting. You want to do business with certain real estate people, go to a few open houses and meet them. You want to get a restaurants food supply account.. go see them at a trade show or meet them for lunch. SHOW UP!
This is the simplest NO BRAINER for increasing your business than any other action. Just SHOW UP. Chances are, you’ll be the only one who does.
In summary, whenever possible….. Make an effort to ALWAYS SHOW UP. If for some reason you can’t make a function, be honest and let the person know so there are no false pretences.
There are plenty of events and functions going on. All of them are important to the event planner. If you do make your presence known, it will make a difference to the hosts, and will certainly be appreciated.
